Here are the highlights – 49 Seats is a delicious restaurant specialising in pasta and western food located at The Centrepoint. While they started off with exactly 49 Seats with their first outlet in Chinatown, their seating capacity has vastly increased since then.
They are famous for their Tom Yum Seafood Pasta and they were the first to create Fish & Chips with Tom Yum sauce. Not being a stranger to innovation, we were particularly impressed with their Old Fashioned Fish & Chips with Al Scampi Sauce. Who knew that fish & chips could be so delicious when paired with carbonara cream sauce? For this invitation, we sampled their highlights and we were pleasantly surprised with the deliciousness of their food.
Service and Ordering
We are particularly impressed with the interior ambience of 49 Seats. The owners have went out of their way to make a really great design that makes for some really great photographs.
This is your typical casual dining restaurant. You order when seated and pay at the cashier. The service was prompt and we had no complaints whatsoever.
49 Seats – Old Fashioned Fish & Chips with Al Scampi Sauce
Fish & Chips is probably one of the most common western food dishes. Everyone knows about fish & chips but is it easy to make a really good dish? A good fish & chips dish needs the perfect amount of batter, the perfect batter crispiness, fresh fish, the correct thickness of the fish and a great sauce pairing.
49 Seats’ fish & chips impresses on all fronts. We were particularly impressed with their Al Scampi sauce. What was this mysterious sauce that went so perfectly with the fish & chips? The phrase Al Scampi implies a type of crustacean sauce, but upon further queries, this is just a tweaked carbonara cream sauce. Yes, the most delicious fish & chips and sauce pairing involves the carbonara cream sauce – and we were absolutely blown away. This is a super delicious 4.5/5 and it is priced at S$16.90 a la carte. It has been a while since we rated a food item this highly and we can’t wait to go back and order this again.
49 Seats’ Signature Tom Yum Seafood Pasta
This is their signature highlight, and we must say that 49 Seats knows a thing or two about tom yum sauce. There is a generous serving of smooth, creamy tom yum sauce that tastes extremely authentic. There is the real sour and spicy taste and it is very close to the taste that you will get in Thailand. We were also impressed with the amount of ingredients provided. This is a must-try for Thai food lovers. We rate this 4.2/5 and it is priced at S$14.90.
49 Seats at The Centrepoint is a fantastic restaurant that is great for chill-out dinners. It is at the heart of Orchard Road and it is a perfect place for food after a long day of shopping. We definitely enjoyed the food over here and be sure to try their Old Fashioned Fish & Chips with Al Scampi Sauce! The standard of the food here is definitely high and we think that you will not be disappointed.
We note that The Centrepoint has undergone a major facelift and renovation, and with the new design, it is actually a bit tricky to get to 49 Seats. Just ask the security guards and they will direct you to the restaurant.
